Thank You!

OK, this is a long one... but it needs to be said.

Here is how I think we should all, every single one of us, start each and every day for the rest of our lives...

First, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, get out of bed and walk to the nearest mirror. Next, look into that mirror and pay very close attention to the details of your image. Pay special attention to the eyes. Look into them as deeply as you can. Now, in your most sincere tone of voice, say "Thank You!" "THANK YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH!"

On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, instead of the above Thank You, change it to "IT'S ALL MY FAULT!" "There is no one to blame but ME!!!"

On Sundays do something special, recite both of the above - SEVERAL TIMES. You can augment this by adding a good, firm SLAP to to your face - several, if you are so inclined.

By now you are probably wondering what you have been thanking and blaming yourselves for. Well, take a guess - you'll probably be wrong - but go ahead, give it a shot anyway. Better yet, think about those acts and this post the next time you buy gasoline and pay over $4.00 a gallon for it. That's right, it's our fault! We're responsible for it - nobody but us!!

Don't think so? Well, look at it this way... We, The People, are the ones that elected the Shlubs to Congress in the 1960's and 70's that caved in to the "Special Interest Groups" (read that TREE HUGGERS) and banned new oil drilling, new refineries and new Nuclear Power Plants .

We, The People, are the ones that have not taken a stand and said alright, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY!!

OK, some of you get it and understand the problem. Unfortunately, most of you don't. If you did, we would be hearing more about the solution. What is driving the price of oil through the roof? It's not that there is a shortage TODAY. It's not that the cost of getting the oil out of the ground TODAY has gone up appreciably. What is taking place and is jeopardizing our future is the fact that stock speculators are hoping the demand IN THE FUTURE will exceed the available supplies. They are willing to drive the price up, through the Futures Market, in the hopes that it will be profitable IN THE FUTURE.

If my Tarot Cards and Crystal ball are giving me correct information you are sitting there asking yourself "why is he emphasizing IN THE FUTURE every chance he gets?" And therein lies the answer. If We, The People, through our Shlubs in office, simply announced the commitments to open up ANWAR (The Artic National Wildlife Refuge) and our off shore waters to oil extraction, to building ten new oil refining facilities and to building ten new Nuclear Power generating facilities the price of crude oil on the Futures market would fall like the proverbial rock.

We have enough oil inside out National and Territorial boundary's to keep us going for several Decades, probably with total independence from foreign suppliers. Some of whom have been shown to support Terrorist activities directed against you and I.

Am I over simplifying - probably. Am I ignoring the dangers - doubtfully. Technology has improved so much in the last 40+ years that ecological disasters of the magnitude seen back then are a very remote possibility today. Remember, a computer that occupied 4 blocks of real estate back then had less "power" that the computer you are using to read this rant. But you know what? As remote the possibility for a disaster may be, I don't give a particular damn.

Like it or not, Man is here to stay. Yes it's important to protect - to a point - our environment. However, when that "protection" leads to the real possibility that I can no longer make a living in my chosen field, it's time for the Human - ME - to take precedence in the food chain. I must drive a car for work. I must drive from appointment to appointment. I must carry several 50 pound cases of equipment as well as 40 pounds of literature and other bulky equipment that will not fit into carrying cases. These are not things I choose to do, they are things I must do. I cannot Ride Share (as I may be in Orange County today, Riverside County tomorrow and Las Vegas the following day) nor can I engage Public Transportation as a solution. I am just one individual but there are millions of other individuals in our country that are in the same situation. My monthly Gasoline bill has been (at $3.40 a gallon) running between $500.00 and 650.00 per month. I don't even want to think what it's going to be this month. And you know what? If some Polar Bear or Caribou in Alaska has to step over a piece of pipe or walk around an oil rig to get to their deification spot or to the water - so be it. If some flowering plant or endangered Lizard disappears from the face of the planet - so be it. Let's call it what it is, Folks - MAN IS MORE IMPORTANT. Like it or not, the sooner we start screaming that as our mantra the better off we will all be. If our existing Legislators refuse to listen to us ELECT NEW ONES THAT WILL! Any Politician who is seeking election that doesn't adopt this thought pattern, and publicly proclaim it, is an out and out idiot. Of course, that hasn't kept us from electing them in the past, has it?

We, The People, can make a difference. We have done it many times in our past. We have done everything from tossing tea over the side of a ship in a harbor to sending peanuts to Network Executives to save a television show from cancellation. Now,using the Internet we can be heard like never before. Start talking about this to everybody you come in contact with - every single day - until the Shlubs hear us. Email the Shlubs - you now know what to say - make that SCREAM. If we don't make them hear and comply with our wishes/demands we are headed down a road that we are not going to like traveling. I have heard some analysts say that $10.00 per gallon gasoline might not be a fantasy. There are only a hand full of people in this country that can afford that and you know what friends - you and I are not in that group. Remember that the next time you look in the mirror - remember to thank yourself.
SO BE IT.
